Tiny House Coffee shop is going strong in Salida, CO

The tiny house we built for a client is now up and running as the best little coffee shop there ever was!  Really cute tiny house parked conveniently in Poncha Springs on Hwy 285 / 50 just west of Salida, CO on the way up to Monarch Mountain ski resort.

the picnic table is a great spot to sit and sip your espresso while reviewing your map and planning the rest of your trip.

If you’re in the area stop on by!  I’m biased of course, but the tiny house looks amazing and the coffee is some of the best I’ve had.  Organic, fair trade, and all the great things coffee can be.  Great job Michael and Sabra!

Beehive Mini Mart: More Photos

We finished and delivered the Beehive Mini Mart tiny house a few weeks ago, but I wanted to share a few more photos:

I think I already posted this photo in the recent post about moving the tiny house… but I love it!  So I am forcing you to look at it again!  Because I can.  The ominous clouds… the irony of the “colorful” colorado sign on a gray day…

A utility closet built on the trailer tongue houses propane tanks, etc.  The large window on the side slides open and will be the serving window for customers looking for the perfect cappuccino.  Or pint of local honey.  Or…  t.b.d.

It’s Moving Day! Moving the Beehive Tiny House to Colorado

Just a quick post to tell you we’re moving the Byer Beehive Tiny House / Tiny Mart to Crestone, CO today!  I’ll do a more thorough post of the finished details later… but we’re hitching up right now….

Beehive Tiny House: Interior Paneling, Flooring, and Trim

Well, here is a long overdue update on our progress building the Beehive Mobile Mini Mart for our client in Colorado.  The last post I wrote about it we were doing exterior siding, staining and painting and we’ve now finished out the interior.

Shane found beautiful beetle kill / blue-stain pine siding for the Tiny House interior walls at our local lumber yard.

We ended up using EcoTouch fiberglass insulation. Zero voc’s and almost the R-value of foam. I went to a lecture on foam insulation and while it performs, it’s hard to feel good about putting a chemical product into the world that will never go away… Have you seen the film “Garbage Island”?? It’s sad. Plastic never goes away, it just gets smaller and smaller.

Here’s the latest series of photos showing our construction progress on the Beehive Mini Mart Tiny House / Store:

Beehive Tiny Store: installing high temp metal roofing underlayment

Beehive Tiny Store: Housewrap is installed, windows are masked and we’re painting the exterior trim.

Beehive Mini Mart: Siding is installed, ready for batten strips.  You can see our gray stain color samples sitting on the ground.  We finally decided on a darker stain reminiscent of old weathered mountain cabins.

Beehive Mini Mart: Exterior siding is stained, window trim is installed. The big window on the side slides open so patrons can be served outside; food-cart style. The shed structure on the trailer hitch will house propane for the store’s heater as well as future PV solar system batteries.

Beehive Mini Mart: next we move on to the interior, where we will install full height wall shelves, counters, and a fridge and freezer.

We had some good weather this week here in Santa Fe and spent the last two days working on our new client project, The Beehive Mobile Mini Mart.  (click on the Category: Beehive Mini Mart in the list to the right to see all the posts about the Beehive…)

Day 1: Trailer Leveling, Floor Framing, Floor Insulation, Floor Sheathing, and Bolt-Downs to Trailer Frame

Trailer is leveled and we’re ready to start framing the floor.

We have the trailer for our client’s project: The Beehive Mobile Mini Mart!  Very exciting.  We’ll be starting the build next week and at last I’ll have something exciting to blog about again!  And You all will have another build to follow along on!  And our client will have a new mini mobile business!

Trailer for Clothesline Tiny Home’s new client project: Beehive Mobile Mini Mart.

We had this trailer custom built to have integral jack stands as well as a full width 8′-0″ wide platform.  Framing and anchor bolts will be a breeze with this wider foundation.

The trailer is 8′-0″ wide by 16′-0″ long and the store will be 14′-0″ long with a 2′-0″ deck on the rear.  You can read more about the design of the tiny store and Clothesline’s client in this previous blog post.

Getting this trailer reminds me of when we bought our trailer to build a tiny house for ourselves.  The trailer was used and required quite a bit of work to convert it from a car hauler to a foundation for a house.  I am a fan of re-purposing, but when it comes to the foundation for a structure…we’re excited to start the build on a new, clean slate.

Clothesline Tiny Homes has a New Project!

Shane and I are so excited because we are working with a client to design and build a mobile super mini mart!  It will be called the Beehive Mobile Mini Mart and it will be styled like an old Colorado mountain cabin.  The client plans to travel with the home around Colorado selling organic food and local honey.

For those of you who have caught the Tiny Fever I’m sure you relate to the obsession with dreaming up all sorts of structures that can be built on trailers.  A mini store is a great idea, especially with the wildly popular trend of  mobile food carts.

Our starting point with the design of the mini store was the OR mobile ski lodge, designed and built by a close friend of our client.
